The Egyptian - Cycle of Life.   For this bespoke piece I have picked three colours which most represent the Ancient Egyptian culture for me. Black, Blue, and Gold. The gods were typically represented with gold skin, reflecting the belief that gods did, in fact, have gold skin. Isis, for example, is always depicted with gold skin in a white dress, emphasizing her eternal aspect and is represented as a focal point in this necklace. An exception to this is the god Osiris and his son by Isis, Anubis, both depicted with black skin symbolizing fertility, regeneration, and the underworld. Although black was associated with death it had no connotation of evil. Anubis was the god who guided the dead to the hall of judgement and was present at the weighing of the soul’s heart. I have used a few Black Lava beads but mainly I have used Black onyx for this strikingly beautiful necklace, adding a sense of gravitates to the piece. Spiritually black onyx is as deep as its colour. The stone awakens potential in individuals and sharpens their intuition and judgment. For those facing challenges, this onyx brings strength and clarity. Chalcedony brings protection from dark forces. Bastet, goddess of women, was one of the most popular deities in all of Egypt, she was also depicted as black, women wore tattoos of Bes done in black ink again to accentuate the concept of rebirth. Blue, the colour of intuition, inspiration and inner peace was a very special colour for the Ancient Egyptians, the first society to have a word for the colour blue was in fact the Egyptians, the only culture that could produce blue eyes, very special indeed and represented here with the beautiful blue silver lined glass beads in this design. For this piece I have finished it off with a Gold coloured motif of the scarab beetle; a symbol of great significance in Ancient Egypt. The scarab beetle came to represent the eternal cycle of: life, death and resurrection, all themes the Ancient Egyptians seem to have been most focused upon.
